That is why I suspect it is defective, so I am just looking for experience of others with it (and whether its wireless range is very limited), to determine whether to exchange it or just return it. Download the DriverInstaller for Gear Head and install it on your PC or laptop. I would expect a keyboard to work for normal keys at the BIOS level (like my Logitech di Novo Edge) to be able to get into CMOS setup or boot menus on a normal PC, and that drivers would just be for programming special keys (internet, audio, etc.). When booted in Win7 on a tablet PC (without installing drivers) it did nothing at all (not even mouse movement). If I boot Ubuntu Linux on a desktop PC, the keyboard does not do anything at all in grub, but mousepad and buttons work in login screen. But I wonder if it is Windows only, only works after configured with its Windows driver, or defective, because without installing special drivers it does nothing in Raspian console. With round-the-clock support from NETGEAR GearHead, you’ll have complete peace of mind. And elinux lists it as working with Raspberry Pi. NETGEAR Gearhead technical support makes it easy to fix issues on your home networking devices as well as your PC, tablets, laptops, and moreall without having to bring an expert into your home. I picked up a GearHead KB3800TPW wireless keyboard/mousepad because it is smaller than a normal keyboard, but large enough to touch-type (unlike tiny keyboards) if used to a netbook size keyboard.
